Podcast

Over the past week I've been working on my podcast. I thought this would be hard to edit it. It was actually pretty easy. Any part you didn't want you just highlighted and hit delete. The only problem I had with the pod cast is not taking to loud, and not talking to light. Other then that this project was a good learning experience.

Ottawa Senators

Playoff time is here again for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and look who we draw again in the first round the Ottawa Senators. Now the penguins could have avoided this if they would have won on Sunday, but they didn't and now they play Ottawa again. Now today Ottawa’s coach made a comment saying that we tanked Sunday game to play Ottawa. Now if we did I don't know if that was a good idea because we always struggle against them, but for their coach to make this comment is stupid, so what if we did. Number one it’s a sport, its strategy, if you feel that’s your best matchup to start the playoffs then you would do the same thing. Number two if the pens really did then this then it should give Ottawa all the motivation in world to win. Lastly this is just a comment made by a coach who fired the first coach when he was Gm and put his self in as a coach, and the team is still struggling, so all I can say is go find another way to make excuses of why your team is struggling and why people want to play them.

2008 Chevy Mabliu

Last night I brought a 2008 chevy mabliu. This car has some many neat things. Xm radio, this is first time I've used this, and its pretty cool you can listen to anything you want, when you want, and the best part there is no commericals. The best part is the phone that comes with the car. There is a phone set up with on-star where I can make calls, recieve calls and store numbers. This is pretty cool and not much all the things on-star does. It locate me, give me a report on my cars engine. I think this is awesome and its pretty cool how far cars have come.

Pittsburgh Pirates

So after I watched the penguins last night I decided to turn on the pirates. To my surprise they were up 9 to 4 in the bottom of the ninth, don't you worry though the pirates played liked pirates and blew that lead? They would go on to win in extra innings, but once again you can see are main problem. A lack of pitching. The pirates are bad and in till they go out spend some money on good players, not old washed up players they are going to be horrible like Matt Morris. So to me they escape last night but when the season gets going we will be right where we always are, near the bottom of the league.

Crosby or Malkin

Now that we have both got to see them take over the team for extended amount of time the question comes up who is better. I know a lot of Pittsburgh people would say Crosby because he was here first, and it’s his team, but you have to look at what Malkin has done and maybe with Crosby in the lineup he gets overshadow and loses some playing time. Malkin in 2 and half months put up 50 points and carried the penguins without Crosby, and got them in first place for the first time this season. To me there both great players and I thank god we have both but next time you over look Malkin you might want to consider what he did this season.

Season Ticket waiting List

I'm glad to see the my favorite sport has finally got some attention again in Pittsburgh. The other day I joined the Pittsburgh Penguins season ticket waiting list and there is also a thousand people on it. I was glad to see this because I often hear the hockey is stupid and its not a sport. Well with that many people on the waiting list and 4o straigth sell outs and counting it just shows there is still alot of interest in hockey still.

Microsoft Access

So when I'm not at school and I'm not coaching basketball, I'm working at my other job. At my other job I do security and recptionist type stuff. One of the jobs there is to keep track of the contactor and vistor database. To keep track of this we use microsoft access. Before working here I had no clue what microsoft access was. I have to say after using it for some time now that I like it. See what we do is when a vistor or new contractor comes in we make them sign a sheet and then I enter it into the system. What is nice about this is if some how we enter someone twice it tells me. Other then the database I really haven't done to much else with it, but for right now I like the program.

Microsoft Publisher Part 2

After using this program for the second time, I have to say that I really like this program still. I think this program will really help me in the future. I realized that this program makes it really easy to make a newsletter and really helpful with making a brochure. I like this program a lot ,and I'm glad I got a chance to use it and see how much of a help this program could be in the future.

Microsoft Frontpage Part 2

Well its official after using Microsoft FrontPage to do my website I did not like it. I found it very hard to move things on the page and get them aligned to look nice; also I still couldn't get things to fit next to each other across the page. Next I have to do something like this website I will probably use word instead of FrontPage.

Fitness Team

The other day I was working in Penn Hills when I ran into a guy I know. We were talking and he informed that he coaches a fitness team, and if I ever wanted to help just stop down. He told me they meet three times a week and workout and play games, and prepare for competitions that they go to every year. I thought this was a great idea and a great way for kids to stay physically active. I also think it is something all schools should look into having. A fitness team would give some kids the opportunity to stay fit and play games with people instead of sitting at home with nothing to do.

Microsoft Front Page

I've been using front page the past couple weeks and I find that I'm not really a big fan of this program. Number one reason why is because I can't find it anywhere to get for my computer. Number is because I had some trouble today inserting stuff and then it would not let me put anything across the screen where this box was. I don’t know maybe it’s just me and maybe I need to learn more about the program but I think I'll stick with the other Microsoft programs for future projects.

Greensburg-Salem

I was glad to see the other day that my high-school basketball team was in the semi finals in triple A. When I was there we were in Quad A and school was way too small to have a completive team with the other schools in the Quad A. My senior year we finished second in a division and made the playoffs, but came up against a much better New Castle team and lost. I'm glad to see though that Greensburg Salem has got a fair chance now by being in triple A and there taking full advantage of that.

Snow

Last week snow was crazy. I live in Pittsburgh and it was nuts all the snow that fell in such a short time. I think it was a little crazy that school was not cancelled, because from the people I talked to it was just as bad up at Slippery Rock. I felt bad about missing my classes but there is now way I'm going to drive on 79 with the truck drivers who fly down the road like there is nothing wrong. I fill that on a day like that all school's should be closed.

Hockey- Neck Protection

With this recent incident with the Florida Panthers player having his throat cut by a skate, it brought up the issue of the neck protectors for the players again. I don't think the players need neck protectors for the following reasons. One this is only the second time this had happen in the years and years of hockey, second there is no rule against wearing neck protection so if the players wanted to wear something they could, and none of them do because there is very little risk. If this was happening allot ok I can see the need to look into it, and I don't have a problem with them looking into now, but do they need it: no its only happen twice in the long history of the NHL.

Microsoft Publisher

This week in class we used Microsoft publisher. This is the first time I ever used this program. I like this program a lot, I have had to make certificates before for my basketball camp, and I wish I would have known about this program because this has so many designs for a sports certificates. Also I can use this program if I need to make flyers for my camp. So I think this is a good program and I plan on taking advantage of this program.

New Rules this year in Football

With football season over it's time to look back. One positive thing I really thought was a good rule football added this year was the new concussion rule. The rule states if a player suffers a concussion or severe blow to the head they can not return to play until they are cleared by doctor. I think this is good because to many times have players returned to soon or there coach may have talked them into playing when they should have not and there still hurt and get hurt again, it also can lead to affects later in life to these players. So I think this is great because it takes the discussion out of the coach and players hands.

Heart Rate Monitors

Last semester in fitness Ed we used heart rate monitors and I think these are good thing for physical education. These make it so the students can work in there zone and not over work there self like some kids do and they then start not liking physical education. Also it helps to let you know that all your kids are working in your class. For example you may have the star athlete in your class who goofs off, but with a heart rate monitor he has to work and stay in his zone. You can find out how long he was in the zone just by looking at there watch.

Fitness Gram

Last semester I learned about the fitness gram. I thought the fitness gram is a great thing for teachers to use in school. The fitness gram is great because it show students were they are physically and were they need to be and were they are. The fitness gram could also be bad if it’s not used right. Student information should always stay private and it should never be used as example for the rest of the class or for a grade.

Intro

Hi my name is Edward Meli. I am 22 and I’m currently a junior at Slippery Rock University where I’m major in physical education. I live in Pittsburgh, PA. I love sports my favorite would have to be hockey, followed by football and basketball. I love to attend hockey games especially when you have players like Sidney Crosby and Malkin playing. In high school I played basketball and ran track & field at Greensburg Salem. Also in high school I met my girlfriend who I know will be getting married to in May of 2009
